About RailFocus
Independent practice for UK train driver and rail signaller selection. We built RailFocus because the practice tests available online fell short of the real thing, and the ones worth doing were spread across different websites. We wanted everything in one place, done properly.
How it started
RailFocus started as a phone app. This is how it became the website you are using now.

Thin, clunky practice, or one task sold as the whole battery. People still walked in cold.

What you see after a mock
Work through the aptitude tests first. Each one has its own instructions page, so you can learn the format, sit it a few times, and get used to the timing before anything is on the line.
Then sit a mock in the Assessment Day Simulator. It runs the tests in the order the day uses, with breaks between them. When you finish, every score is plotted on one line in the order you sat them, so a dip part-way through the run is obvious. That is the test to go back and sit again on its own before the real day.
How we work
A score only helps if the practice is a fair rehearsal, and if we keep changing it when people tell us it is not.
Rehearsal, not a replica
We are not an operator, and this is not the paper you will sit. Operators keep their own batteries, timings, and scoring. What we do is model the family of UK tasks, vigilance, search, reaction, memory, rules, and judgement, so assessment day is not the first time you have seen the wrapper. Hundreds of hours have gone into the modules, against current aptitude tests and what candidates tell us after they sit them. A score here is not a pass. It is how you learn the formats, build the stamina the day actually asks for, and find the skills that still wobble while you can still do something about them.
Shaped by the people using it
Candidates tell us what felt unclear, what dragged, and what still caught them out. That feedback does not sit in a list. It goes into the next change: a clearer instruction, a fairer timing, a score that actually explains the miss. The app became the full platform the same way, by putting what people reported back into the product.
Honest scores
Every finished run stores a practice score out of 100 and the metrics behind it: hits, misses, false alarms, time. That is a training signal. It is not a pass mark, not a prediction, and not something to put on an application. Watch the trend, not a single lucky morning.
Made in the UK
This is a UK job, with a UK selection day. The operators, the centres, and the mix of vigilance, concentration, search, and judgement are not a generic pack from somewhere else. RailFocus is built in the United Kingdom so the practice follows this selection, not someone else's.
